We had such a wonderful time with the folks at nThrive last week at IMURG in Raleigh, NC! The weekend’s theme was “perform like a rockstar,” which dovetailed perfectly into part of our teaching portion called “PLAYING VS. PERFORMING”
Musicians on stage have the choice to either “play” the songs or “perform” the song. Playing is just getting by, doing the bare minimum; just playing the notes. Performing is living in the moment, caring about the song, and playing like it could be your last time on stage.
We have all ‘played’ at work when we could be ‘performing.’ It’s not about putting on a show; it’s about caring about the project or task.
At a recent Drum Team event, I was asked if my mind ever wandered during the set…the honest answer was yes, and that I try to snap out of it and go back to ‘performing.’ I would also consider that this could be somebody’s first or last concert…that immediately causes me to focus and give the music my full attention. After all, people paid good money to see my band Delta Rae and the last thing I want them to think is that I was phoning it in!
When’s the last time YOU chose to ‘perform’ instead of ‘play’ on a project? Did it make a difference? When your whole TEAM performs, doesn’t it make work more fun (and easier)?
The amazing folks at nThrive performed like ROCKSTARS with Drum Team Collective the other week…I can’t wait to meet YOUR team and watch them not only play…but PERFORM!
